The Downers Grove Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry presents its General Membership Luncheon Healthcare Panel What’s the Right Prescription? Join the Chamber for a discussion on this critical issue regarding the country’s healthcare policies on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the DoubleTree Guest Suites & Conference Center.
“This promises to be a very informative panel; while each representative may be uniquely focused, the common denominator is that we all recognize the need for reform. This reform will define the quality of lives for several years to come. We owe it to ourselves and our children to be educated on the issue and to challenge Congress to provide a constructive and responsible
solution that we can all support,” said Chamber president & CEO, Laura Crawford.
The Chamber is proud to welcome Howard Peters from the Illinois Hospital Association, Courtney Hedderman of AARP, and Dr. Douglas Norman, a physician from Canada, practicing in the United States, as keynote speakers. The panel will be facilitated by Chuck Lauer, corporate vice president of Crain Communications, Editorial and Publishing Director of Modern Healthcare.
Howard A. Peters III has been Senior Vice President of Advocacy and Government Relations for the Illinois Hospital Association since January 2000. Mr. Peters is working in Springfield, Washington, D.C. and DuPage County to make certain that hospitals get the kind of support they need. He has been specifically focusing in the areas
of providing service to poor and uninsured persons. After a 28-year career in public service, this has been his first undertaking into the private sector. Mr. Peters has also served as a criminal justice consultant and expert witness.
Courtney Hedderman is an Associate State Director for AARP Illinois. She is leading projects on health care reform and the national campaign, Divided We Fail as well as advocating for AARP with elected officials in Washington, D.C. and Springfield, Illinois. Prior to AARP, Courtney was employed as a Public Policy Director for Health & Disability Advocates, a national policy and advocacy organization working on behalf of older
adults and people with disabilities, leading projects like the 100% Campaign, the Medicaid Leadership Group and the Make Medicare Work Coalition.
Dr. Douglas Norman is a former Canadian citizen who chose to practice medicine in the United States, currently works at Rush North Shore Medical Center in Skokie, Illinois. He is board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He graduated from the University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine in Vancouver.
