Park Blvd Glen Ellyn, IL 60137 Phone: 630-858-4727 Event Description: You might remember the excellent spraying presentation Carl Scogin gave to the DuPage Woodworkers in August, 2009; he’s back….. At the October 27th meeting Carl will give an explanation of the basic types of hand planes and the functions of each. He’ll discuss how to properly set up and tune planes, a subject which I’m sure put many of us off the use of these powerful tools. Proper techniques, stances & mechanics when using planes will be discussed and demonstrated. A brief description of sharpening techniques and angles will be covered including micro bevels and the strengths and weaknesses of this sharpening process. Carl will show how hand planes can actually save time and work in the shop and will demonstrate a “rough to ready” procedure for turning a rough sawn board into a ready to finish panel.
