Event Description: In the spirit of holiday giving, the historic Tivoli Theatre will host benefit screenings of the Frank Capra classic, “It’s A Wonderful Life.” The film will be presented at the theatre on Saturday, December 3rd and Sunday, December 4, 2011 at 1:30 pm, located at 5021 Highland Ave. Movie admission is $5, and proceeds will be donated to Sharing Connections Furniture Bank. Sharing Connections Furniture Bank is a non-profit organization that collects and distributes furniture as well as other basic necessities to make a home for families and individuals in need. “Sharing Connections is a way for us to share with others, and we are grateful that the Tivoli is contributing to this effort,” says Leeanne McGrath, founder and life trustee of Sharing Connections. She adds, “It is rewarding to know we help to make a house a home for those in our community who could not otherwise afford furniture. The holidays are all about coming home to a cozy atmosphere to enjoy time with friends and family. Our program makes that happen.” This holiday event includes preshow entertainment on the Wurlitzer pipe organ before each show. “It’s A Wonderful Life” released in 1946 starring Donna Reed and James Stewart, is an uplifting holiday movie in which compassion for others and giving of one’s self are valued. The film tells the story about a caring man who grows despondent on Christmas Eve. He gains the assistance of his guardian angel, who shows him through flashbacks how his actions have helped the citizens of the fictional town of Bedford Falls. In the end, he realizes no one is a failure who has friends. It is a wonderful life.
