Rotary Club of Downers Grove Halloween Window Painting Rotary Club of Downers Grove Halloween Window Painting . Please Note --> This is a Past Event!! . Date: 10/27/2013 Time: 9:00 AM TO 1:00 PM DOWNERS GROVE DOWNTOWN MANAGEMENT CORPORATION 933A Curtiss St. Downers Grove, IL 60515 Phone: 630-968-4050 Event Description: For almost 50 years, Downers Grove residents have had the opportunity to bring their children downtown Downers Grove and participate in the longest standing independently run event taking place in town. And this year will be no different as the Rotary Club of Downers Grove, in conjunction with the Downtown Management Corporation once again will put this fun event on. The event will take place downtown Downers Grove on Saturday Oct. 27th from 9am-1pm. Each year children gather with their parents to paint the windows of those downtown merchants who allow them to demonstrate their painting talents. Those merchants who wish to have their windows painted will have an orange stripe down the window. This will identify the windows that can be painted. Once considered a contest with awards for young artists, this event is all for fun and allow children to display their Halloween thoughts. Paints and brushes are supplied and can be picked up in front of the Downtown Management Corp. office located at 933A Curtiss Street. Last year’s window painting exceeded the 500 sets of paint handed out to individuals who chose to paint the windows. The number of children who actually painted last year were much more than the 500. And when children were done, they brought their left over paints back to the pickup location for late comers to have a chance to paint. And there were many. As in the past, this event has also benefited the F.I.S.H. pantry. Families are asked to bring canned donations that will be placed in the truck supplied by the Downers Grove FISH Food Pantry. Many of the Downers Grove less fortunate families have had a chance to have food from the FISH Pantry. While many think Downers Grove community is very affluent, there are many families in need. And this event really helps them all year round. In addition, The Rotary Club of Downers Grove has asked for a donation of clean, gently used men’s or woman’s coats, to be donated to the “Stand Down Days” event being held in Chicago on Nov. 9th. District 6450, which the DG Rotary club is a part of, will be collectively gathering coats donated for our homeless veterans. Stand Downs are one part of the Department of Veterans Affairs’ efforts to provide services to homeless veterans. Stand Downs are typically one to three day events providing services to homeless Veterans such as food, shelter, clothing, health screenings, VA and Social Security benefits counseling, and referrals to a variety of other necessary services, such as housing, employment and substance abuse treatment. Stand Downs are collaborative events, coordinated between local VAs, other government agencies, and community agencies who serve the homeless. And this year Chicago is participating on November 9th. In addition to the downtown festivities, the group HGNA (Helping Girls Navigate Adolescence) will be serving up a fantastic pancake breakfast in the morning from 8-11 at Ballydoyle Irish Pub located at 5157 Main St, right in the heart downtown Downers Grove. The costs are $6 for adults, $3 for kids and 2 and under are free. So be sure to stop in for breakfast, paint a few windows and bring your canned foods and gently used coats in for a wonderful day in downtown Downers Grove. Directions: Need more information?
